We conducted an exclusive interview with British diva Ellie Goulding, who will release her long-awaited new album “Higher Than Heaven” on March 24.

Ellie Golding is a singer-songwriter born in Hereford, England in 1986.

 

She began making music at the age of 15 and won a singing contest while in college. She then moved to London, where her debut album “Lights” debuted at number one in the UK music charts in 2010, and her second album “Halcyon” was released in October 2012, selling approximately 4 million albums and 15 million singles worldwide by 2013. She is one of Britain’s most talented and accomplished singers in the world.

tvgroove conducted an exclusive interview with Ellie for the second time since 2018. She talked a lot about her third collaboration with Calvin Harris, her thoughts on the British Royal Family, and the making of her new album “Higher Than Heaven”.

 

Recharge your energy at your favorite place during the holiday season!

 

Q:We have entered the year 2023. Did you take a good rest during the holiday season?

 

I had a great vacation season! I often volunteer during the holiday season, which I haven’t been able to do for the past 3 years in Corona, so it was nice to get back into it. I went to Miami, my favorite city. I saw friends and spent my birthday there. I took my son with me and we had a great time. It was nice to get some time to relax before the album release. I think this year is going to be a big one. So I relaxed as much as I could during the holiday season.

Q: You recently posted a photo of yourself in the recording studio with Calvin Harris. Fans were very happy to see you two collaborating again, as you have been producing hit songs together. Can you tell us what the song is about this time around?

 

I think this collaboration is going to be something people can’t even imagine! Calvin has tried so many different things over the years. He’s a great producer, he can do all kinds of genres of music, he’s a real genius, and that’s one of the reasons I love him so much. I was so excited when he offered to collaborate with me on our third song, and it was so special to collaborate with him, and we both wanted to do another project in 2023, so I’m really excited!

Tribute to Queen Elizabeth

 

Q:Ellie released a music video for her cover song “Fields Of Gold” last December 21. Ellie performed this song at the Commonwealth Day ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 2016, and the music video includes footage of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. Is it a tribute to Queen Elizabeth?

 

Performing this song in front of Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family on Commonwealth Day was one of the greatest honors of my life. It was one of the most special moments in my career, and when I was a little girl I could never imagine that one day I would perform in front of the Queen and meet her. When the Queen passed away last year, I wanted to release this cover as a way to honor her life. I’m glad people have responded so well to it.

New album “Higher Than Heaven” was made during a pandemic & while pregnant!

 

Q: On March 24th, you will release your new album “Higher Than Heaven”. What is this album, your fifth, like?

 

Higher Than Heaven” is more of a dance-pop album. I wrote most of the songs on the album during the lockdown period, and I was pregnant at the time, so I think it reflects that reality. The songs express the feelings of becoming a mother and the loneliness of being quarantined in a pandemic like everyone else, and because they were written under those circumstances, I think they ended up as happy, uplifting, danceable pop songs. No one wanted to make ballads or slow music in these situations. After the pandemic, the producers and musicians got back together and decided to make fun music.

Q:Was there a desire to cheer up people who were feeling down because of the pandemic?

 

Yes, I did. I always write songs with the people who listen to my music in mind, and I want to bring them enjoyable music. With this piece, I wanted to bring joy to people and make them happier and more positive. It’s in my nature to make people feel better, and I think that’s reflected in my music.

Q: What were some of the most memorable episodes in the process of making this album?

 

The best part about making this album was that it was a dance song, clear chorus, clear pre-chorus, uplifting music that stirred our spirits and made the whole production process very positive and natural. The song came together like magic in the midst of a pandemic and a new pregnancy. I enjoyed the whole process and didn’t write about my ex-boyfriend or anything emotional or directed at anyone in particular.

Q:I heard the lead single, “Easy Lover feat Big Sean,” and it seems to be more powerful than ever. The music video was also very unique and impactful with its costumes and dancing. Could you tell us about your thoughts on the song and the music video?

 

The purpose of the music video was to explore different personalities. It expresses a freedom that transcends gender and any boundaries of time. I had a lot of fun playing a different character that wasn’t me in “New Love” with Silk City, and I wanted to explore that more, so that’s what I did again. Easy Lover” was filmed in Bulgaria and was a very enjoyable experience, and I feel more confident in my performance than I did before.

Ellie came to Japan in 2018 for the charity event “RockCorps supported by TJ 2018”. Japanese fans are eagerly awaiting Ellie’s return to Japan. Do you have any plans to visit Japan in the future?

 

I hope you invite me to Japan again!!! How can I get invited back (laughs)? I really want to go to Japan again! I can’t even explain how much I want to go back to Japan! I have so many wonderful memories, met wonderful people, so welcoming, friendly and kind… I really can’t wait to go back to Japan! Anyway, I’ll have to get an invite (LOL)! I really need to get there as soon as I can!
