The long-awaited new season is now available and is already creating a worldwide Mandalorian sensation.

The “father-son bond” between Mando and Grogoo, which has grown deeper than ever during their adventures across the galaxy, has been a source of inspiration for many. Now, two types of “Lucasfilm-approved” Ukiyoe special visuals have been unveiled, dynamically depicting the “bond between the two”, inspired by the two. The bond between the two characters is beautifully depicted with the delicate touch and expression that only Ukiyo-e can provide, and Pedro Pascal, who plays Mando, is a great admirer of these special visuals.

Set five years after Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, the series was carefully crafted by the producers, who love the Star Wars series, based on the idea that if George Lucas were to make a sequel now, he would make it. The story follows the adventures of Mando, a loner who has lost his family, and his first encounter with the Force-powered Glogoo, and how the two form a “father-son bond” through season 1, season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett. The world has been moved and excited by the way the two are united by their “father-son bond”.

Such ukiyoe depictions of Mando and Glogoo have been used as officially licensed Marvel art for “Iron Man”, “The Mighty Thor”, ” TAKUMI has also created a stunning original artwork for the film “Thor: Love & Thunder”, based on the image of the Wind God and Thunder God.

TAKUMI, who is originally a big fan of Star Wars, says: “As a long-time Star Wars fan, the Mandalorian series is one of the true masterpieces for me. As a Japanese, I am delighted to see the deep homage to Japanese culture through the narrative and concept, and as a contemporary ukiyo-e artist, I feel very honoured to have been offered this opportunity. My heart is still racing with a sense of mission to create a work worthy of this film”, he said joyfully.

He added: “In my mind, since the start of Mandalorian, I have envisioned many compositions that I would like to write as Ukiyo-e, so in a broad sense, I have been working on the concept for nearly two years. After deciding on the concept of a ‘samurai picture’, I worked on it for about 10 days without sleep or rest (laughs). I hope you will pay attention to the way I have converted the character designs from the original work into ancient Japanese equipment and clothing”.

Pedro Pascal, who was one of the first to see the visuals, added: “If I could speak Japanese, I could tell you in Japanese how beautiful this is… Thank you so much! Thank you Japan!” He praised it highly.

THIS IS THE WAY” (left image), titled after the Mandalorian clan’s motto “This is the way” that guides their actions in the film, depicts the demons of battle in a “warrior picture” composition. TAKUMI says, “The flames from the jetpack on his back and the bursting lines of effect are expressed in vivid colours and strong contrasts, which were groundbreaking features of the samurai paintings of the time. The work has been dynamically finished as a ‘samurai picture’ that has been revived in the modern age”.

The Mandalorian and Grogue’s “CLAN OF TWO” (right image), meaning “two clans”, depicts their bond with reference to the “composition” of samurai paintings and the “Miekiri” of the Kabuki world. TAKUMI says, “The sun on Tatooine is seen as a small window, a traditional Ukiyo-e technique to express the thoughts of the person depicted, and the symbol of “CLAN OF TWO” is engraved on it. The symbol “CLAN OF TWO” is engraved on it.

Both visuals convey the feelings of Mando, who holds Glogoo carefully in his arms, and foreshadow an epic story.

The second episode (Chapter 18), which was released on 8 March (Wed), depicts Glogoo going alone to his fellow Mandalorian Bo-Katan Kreiz under Mando’s instructions after he is detained on the planet Mandalore, with social networking sites saying, “I’m so, so impressed to see Glogoo growing up so, so much! I was so moved to see him grow up so, so much! The bond between Mando and Glogoo is too good… too cute…” and “It’s great to see the bond between father and son deepening…”

Pedro said of their relationship in Season 3: ‘There’s so much more to explore in their bond. It’s a very rich relationship between parents and their children, and that relationship can change. I’m really looking forward to more of those developments and opportunities in Season 3,” he said, noting that their bond will be more intensely portrayed.

TAKUMI added: “Like fans around the world, I’m really happy to see them travelling together once more. As for the story, I’m very excited that the story is finally about exploring the planet Mandalore and opening the Pandora’s box of Mandalorian origins and doctrines. I’m looking forward to seeing the will that Mando and Glogoo have for each other, their determination to walk together, and their bond, which is deeper than in previous seasons,” he said.

The “father-son bond” between Mando and Glogoo, which is also beautifully expressed in ukiyo-e woodblock prints, is something fans should not miss.

What will become of Mando’s fate when he breaks an important rule for Grogoo and shows his true face, and will Grogoo’s past, which remains a mystery, finally be revealed?

What is the fate that awaits Mando and Glogoo, who have chosen to abandon the Jedi path and live together, on their galactic journey?

Season 3 of the globally-anticipated Mandalorian is now available exclusively on Disney Plus every Wednesday!
