Selena Gomez has called for attention via Instagram to stop taking out their anger and hatred on Hailey Bieber, who has been rumoured to be feuding with her for some time.
Below is Selena’s message.
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
Selena and Hailey’s husband, Justin Bieber, were former lovers who had been attached and apart for almost nine years since their teenage years, and were close until a few months before Justin and Hailey announced their engagement. For a long time, Selena and Hayley were rumoured to be in a relationship, but they “supposedly” put an end to their disagreements with their first ever two-shot in October last year.
However, the disagreement was reignited recently when Hailey and her best friend, reality star and businesswoman Kylie Jenner, were accused by some fans of posting a video on TikTok that made fun of Selena. Selena and Kylie publicly reconciled over the matter, but Hayley has remained silent, and to add insult to injury, in the past, Hayley was labelled a ‘Mean Girl’ after a video went viral with insults to Taylor Swift, who is known as Selena’s best friend. She was labelled a ‘Mean Girl’.
Since then, the hate against Hailey has only accelerated, with mindless language being hurled at her online and an audience member dissing her during Justin’s performance at a music festival by using a banned term called the F-word.
Hayley thanked Selena & more ‘changes’ in their relationship.
Later, in an Instagram update, Hailey thanked Selena for speaking up and also revealed that the row had been hard on everyone involved, including herself, and that she and Selena had discussed how to resolve the situation.
Below is Hailey’s message.
“I want thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks haw to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I. The last few weeks have been very hard fir everyone involved and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this which is extremely harmful. While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together. Things can always be taken out of context or construed differently than they were intended. We all end to be more thoughtful about what we post and what we say, including myself. In the end, I believe love will always be bigger than hate and negativity, and there is always an opportunity to meet each other with more empathy and compassion.”
Incidentally, there have been some small changes after the uproar. In the past, Hailey had “liked” Serena’s Instagram posts on several occasions but did not follow her, but now they are both following each other on Instagram. Perhaps this was a decision made after the “discussion” that Hailey mentioned.
