In fact, two other actresses were initially considered for the role.

When Sony launched the project, Amy Schumer was initially cast in the role of Barbie. However, in 2017 it was revealed that she had withdrawn from the project.

Amy Schumer was said to have dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with her starring role in the 2018 film I Feel Pretty, but in 2022, in an interview with trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter, she said, “They wanted to do it the way I wanted to do it, the way I was interested in They didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the way I was interested in doing it”, and revealed that the difference in direction was the reason.

Amy and her sister, film producer and screenwriter Kim Calamere, wrote Barbie as an ‘ambitious inventor’, while the studio demanded that her invention be a high heel made of jelly.

Anne Hathaway.

Anne Hathaway was said to have been in the running to replace Amy Schumer, who left the project in 2017.

By 2018, it was reported that Anne’s version of the film had been delayed and would be released in 2020. However, in October 2018, Sony’s production of the Barbie film lapsed, with Warner Bros. producing it instead.

It is unclear why Anne left the project, but in 2019, Margot Robbie was finally chosen to play Barbie.
