A new toy has been launched in the US in preparation for the release of the live-action version of The Little Mermaid.
According to ComicBook.com, a new Ariel doll has been launched by Mattel.
The doll is approximately 13 inches (33 cm) long from head to fin and can be posed. She also features a glittery, glittery fin.
The Little Mermaid was released in 1991 (1989 in the US) and was an important film that led to the later Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. This long-standing and much-loved film has been adapted into a live-action film with a top-notch staff and cast who carry on the Disney legacy, and will be released in the US on Friday 26 May.
The role of Ariel is played by newcomer Hallie Bailey, whose singing talent is recognised by Beyoncé. While the internet has been abuzz with controversy over the casting of a black actress for a character originally portrayed as white, with the hashtag #NotMyAriel being created, Harry’s singing voice was praised in the trailer. The doll has appeared on the internet, with people saying they are looking forward to purchasing the doll and that it is cute, and there is also a fundraising drive to deliver the doll to children in underserved areas and other communities.

The film is directed by Rob Marshall and stars singer Harry Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Eartha, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and David Diggs as Sebastian, Flander Jacob Tremblay and Oakwafina as Scuttle, and a stellar cast.
