A New York court jury returned a verdict on 9 May ordering Trump to pay USD 5 million.

The civil lawsuit was filed by columnist Elizabeth Carroll, who claimed that she was sexually assaulted and defamed by Trump in a New York department store changing room approximately 27 years ago.

A jury returned a verdict on 9 September, largely accepting Carroll’s case and ordering Trump to pay her USD 5 million in damages.

Trump had never appeared in court before, said in a video deposition that she was not his type, and mistook Carole’s photo for his second wife.

In response to the verdict, Mr Trump wrote on his social networking sites: ‘I have no idea who this woman is! This verdict is terrible. Unprecedented witch hunt going on!” and other protests, and his lawyers have announced that they plan to appeal.
