‘Queen of Rock and Roll’ Tina Turner dies aged 83.

The great diva, eight-time Grammy Award winner and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has passed away.

Tina Turner was known for hits such as ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ and ‘Private Dancer’.

 

It was revealed that she died at her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland, on Wednesday 24 May local time, aged 83.

 

Tina’s agent explained to the newspaper The Telegraph that Tina had been unwell in recent years and was recuperating; she was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017. The agent commented that a private funeral will be held by close friends and family, and asked that the family’s privacy be respected.

Tina’s staff issued a message on her Instagram. ‘It is with great sadness that we announce Tina’s passing. She has charmed millions of fans around the world with her boundless passion for music and life. And she has inspired the stars of tomorrow.””Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who has left us her best work in the form of music. We send our condolences to her family. Tina, we will truly miss you”.

 

Tina began her career as a singer in the 1950s, debuting as Ike & Tina Turner, and since the 1980s she has had many hits as a solo singer, including ‘Typical Male’. In her private life, she and Ike Turner, who was in a band together, broke up in 1978. She then dated music producer Irwin Buck and lived with him in Switzerland from 1992; they had a civil marriage ceremony in Switzerland in 2013; when she needed a kidney transplant operation in 2018, Buck became her donor.

During a career spanning more than 60 years, he won eight Grammy Awards and was inducted into the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ in 1991 as Ike & Tina Turner and in 2021 as a solo artist. May the great singer rest in peace.
