On 31 May, French newspaper L’Equipe reported that he will play for Barcelona next season on loan from Inter Miami of Major League Soccer (MLS).

Messi, now 35, will play for PSG from August 2021, with a one-year contract extension option attached, but with his current deal running until 30 June 2023, his departure has attracted attention. Messi was booed by PSG supporters at the end of the season and was suspended by PSG for travelling to Saudi Arabia for commercial reasons, including personal promotional activities, without the club’s permission, with reports that the club would not exercise its contract extension option, Messi is believed to be on the verge of a move this summer.

Furthermore, Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal recently made a record-breaking offer of 600 million euros a year, or a total of 1.2 billion euros over two years, and some reports suggested that Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, was open to the offer.

However, L’Equipe reported an astonishing proposal. According to the paper, the two clubs are working towards an agreement whereby Inter Miami would secure Messi’s ownership and loan him to Barcelona for a period of between six and 18 months. This would reportedly allow Messi, who had hoped to continue playing at the top level in Europe, to play in the Champions League (CL) and other competitions in a Barcelona uniform, before representing Argentina in the Copa America in 2024, before concluding his career in Miami. The plan.

Barcelona coach Xavi recently said, “Our supporters have started to mention Messi’s name at every match. I love the idea of his return, but believe me, 99% of it is up to him”, and Barcelona’s local media are also building momentum for Messi’s return. With Barcelona reportedly having financial problems and needing to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) conditions for any reinforcements, including Messi, will Messi really be playing for Barcelona next season?
