Mbappe himself released a statement via AFP after L’Equipe reported on June 12 that he had informed the club in a letter.

He revealed that he had informed the club of his decision as early as last July, pointing out that “the sole purpose of sending the letter [this time] was to confirm what we had previously discussed. Since he will be free to move on after his contract expires, the possibility of him being released this summer, when the club can expect a huge transfer fee, has increased.

ESPN (electronic version) reported that Paris Saint-Germain is looking for a transfer fee of around 150 million euros, and that Real Madrid, a Spanish club, may be interested in acquiring him. The club is offering a fee of 180 million euros (about ¥27.1 billion) in the summer of 2021 to acquire the monster striker. They were on the verge of acquiring him on a free transfer last summer when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain was set to expire, but at the last minute Mbappe extended his contract with the club and stayed.

Real Madrid, whose FW Benzema recently left the club, is said to have Tottenham’s FW Kane on their list for this summer’s transfer market, and if the transfer of Mbappe, the top scorer at the World Cup in Qatar, is allowed to go through, he is likely to be a strong candidate again.
