Star Wars” Announces Release Date for New Trilogy! Two films will be released at once in 2026!

The release date for the new trilogy of the popular science fiction film series “Star Wars” has been announced. Variety and other news outlets in the U.S. are reporting the news.

Star Wars” is a very popular series that has released episodes 1 through 9, and many other spin-off movies and dramas have been produced.

Earlier this year, a new “Star Wars” movie was announced. The three films will depict the past, present, and future of the “Skywalker Saga,” with the future installment featuring Rey, the main character of the trilogy (Episodes 7-9), and the much-talked about comeback of actress Daisy Ridley.

And now Disney has announced the release date for the new trilogy.

The first film in the new trilogy will be released in the U.S. on May 22, 2026, the second on December 18, 2026, and the third on December 17, 2027.

The first film was originally scheduled to be released on December 19, 2025, but the “screenwriters’ strike*” currently taking place in Hollywood has delayed its release.

The strike is a result of the breakdown of negotiations between the Writers Guild of America (WGA), to which about 11,500 screenwriters in the U.S. belong, and the Alliance of Motion Picture Producers of America (AMPTP) regarding higher wages and better compensation.

This resulted in three films being released over a two-year period, with the first and second films being released in the same year.

Speaking of “Star Wars,” the films were released at the rate of one per year, with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in 2015, the spin-off film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” in 2016, and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” in December 2017.

In addition, the company released new films at a much faster pace, with the spin-off film “Solo: A Star Wars Story” coming out five months after “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. However, after the box office performance of the 2018 film “Solo: A Star Wars Story” fell far short of expectations, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the company would slow down the pace of releases.

Although the release date for the first film has been pushed back, many fans are looking forward to the release of the new trilogy.
