Modric’s current contract with Real Madrid expires on June 30 this year.

Based on the news reported by journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Spanish newspaper As e-edition revealed that he rejected a big offer of a three-year contract with a total salary of 200 million euros (about 30 billion yen) received from Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia.

Modric’s current contract with Real Madrid expires on June 30 of this year, but the club has already offered him a one-year extension, which he has decided to accept. The paper also explained that one of the reasons Modric rejected the big offer from Saudi Arabia was because his family feels comfortable living in Madrid.

Modric’s decision means that he will spend his 12th season with Real Madrid next season. In 52 official appearances this season, he scored six goals and provided five assists. He is currently playing in the UEFA Nations League Final Four as captain of the Croatian national team, and in the semifinal against the Netherlands, he showed no signs of age, scoring the first goal with a penalty kick. He also scored the team’s fourth goal on a penalty kick to lead the team to the final against Spain on June 18.
