Shawn Mendes’ live performance is back for one night only, and it has become a topic of conversation.

On Saturday, June 17, Shawn Mendes, a native of the city, jumped in to join singer Ed Sheeran’s concert at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. He performed a duet of Ed Sheeran’s song “Lego House” to the delight of the fans in attendance.

Speaking of Shawn, last July, he canceled all the remaining dates of his world tour that year, citing mental health problems and anxiety after the pandemic of the new coronavirus.

Reporting on Instagram at the time to his fans about the cancellation of the tour, Shawn said, “The fact of the matter is, I wasn’t prepared for how hard it would be to be away from performing for such a long time (in the wake of the pandemic) and then return to touring in this way. After discussing it with my team members and our wonderful medical staff, I decided to take time that I had never taken before for personal reasons. To re-evaluate myself and come back stronger,” he explained.

On the day of the concert, Ed and Shawn both held acoustic guitars and seemed relaxed and in harmony. They also performed Shawn’s own song “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” together. For fans who have been waiting to see Shawn on stage since last summer, this was truly a dream come true.

Ed and Shawn have been friends for some time, and when Shawn performed in Brooklyn in 2017, Ed jumped in and performed “Mercy” with him.

In early June, Shawn released a new single, “What the Hell Are We Dying For?” He seems to be preparing for his comeback to the stage little by little.
