An unidentified body was found in the mountains of southern California, U.S., on June 24.
A search was underway for the missing British actor Julian Sands, who had gone missing near this area.
According to the local sheriff’s office, the body was discovered by a citizen hiking on Baldy Mountain in the San Gabriel Mountains northwest of Los Angeles, who contacted the sheriff. Identification is expected to be completed next week.
Julian went missing this past January while hiking in the mountains. When cell phone location data indicated Baldy Mountain, authorities began a search, which was temporarily halted due to bad weather and avalanche danger. The search only resumed on the 17th of this month.
A team of authorities and some 80 volunteers were dispatched, and two helicopters and a drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) searched from above. However, the local sheriff’s office said on the 19th of this month that some areas, such as steep slopes with more than three meters of snow and ice remaining, were still inaccessible.
Julian is known for his role as the antagonist in season 5 of the U.S. TV drama series “24” and the lead role in the movie “Warlock.
