In November 2021, a crowd accident occurred at the Astroworld Festival, a music festival held in Houston, Texas, USA, killing 10 spectators and injuring hundreds.

The five organizers, including rapper Travis Scott, who was on stage at the time, were sued for criminal responsibility for the accident, but on Thursday, June 29 of this year, more than a year after the accident, a grand jury decided that they would not face criminal charges.

On the same day, Harris District Attorney Kim Ogg offered his condolences to the deceased victims and said, “The grand jury determined that no crime was committed and no one person was criminally responsible.

In response to the verdict, Travis’ attorney, Kent Schaefer, released a statement.

He said, “My client, Mr. Travis Scott, has done nothing wrong nor has he been criminally charged in connection with the Astroworld Festival. Today’s decision by the Harris County District Attorney confirms what we have known all along, that Travis is not responsible for this tragedy. This is consistent with numerous media investigative reports and federal and state government reports that have placed the responsibility for event safety management on the organizers, operators, and contractors, not the performers,” he said. Now that the chapter has closed, we hope that the government will focus on the important task of ensuring that such a tragedy is never repeated in the future.

In addition, Rolling Stone magazine reported that although Travis and the organizers will not face criminal charges, they are facing hundreds of civil lawsuits alleging wrongful death, personal injury, and negligence, and could be sued for billions of dollars in damages.
