Shohei Ohtani will become a free agent (FA) in the off-season of 2023 if he does not extend his contract with the Los Angeles Angels.
Ohtani, who dominates the baseball world as a two-way player, is expected to sign a contract for a record amount of money.
MLB players seem to think the same way. Erin Walsh of the U.S. media outlet Bleacher Report reported on player interviews.
The current MLB record for a contract is the 12-year, $426.5 million contract signed by Angels outfielder Mike Trout. Ohtani’s contract is expected to exceed this at $500 million (about ¥69 billion) or $600 million (about ¥82.8 billion).
Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals predicted “$600 million,” and Sean Murphy of the Atlanta Braves said, “Ohtani will get a lot of money, and he deserves it. There is no other player like him.
Walsh noted that “he could be the face of a new team after this season and will get a lot of attention,” in regards to Ohtani’s moves.
