This three-day sales total for the weekend surpassed the $146.4 million of “The Super Mario Brothers Movie” released in April, which was the highest of the year.

According to the U.S. entertainment magazine “Hollywood Reporter,” the film got off to a great start overseas as well, grossing a total of $182 million (approximately 25.8 billion yen) during the first three-day weekend in 70 countries. The production cost of the film was $145 million, and it has already paid for itself.

The Hollywood Reporter also reported that the film set a new record for first-weekend box office for a Warner Bros. film in major overseas markets, including the U.K., Mexico, Brazil, and Australia. Among them, the U.K. was the top overseas market with $22.9 million (approx. 3.25 billion yen).

Although the film’s performance in Asia was not expected before its release, the magazine reported that although it grossed only $8.2 million (about 116 million yen) in China, officials said that it exceeded expectations. The film is scheduled to open in Japan on August 11.

Meanwhile, for a film with a female lead, it had the highest first-weekend three-day box office in the North American market in history. The previous highest was $103.3 million (about 14.6 billion yen) for “Wonder Woman” (2017) starring Gal Gadot, but the record was broken in 2019 when “Captain Marvel” starring Brie Larson grossed $153 million.
