Doctors, however, are urging fans to reconsider imitating Barbie’s walk.
University of Michigan physician Sari Pleasand said in a university publication that repeatedly imitating Barbie’s arched feet can cause ankle and foot pain. ‘It’s good to try this trend once to see if it can work,’ she said. But it’s not natural to repeat it over and over again or to walk that way,’ says Pleasand. He continued, “Doing this for long periods of time is dangerous and can cause injury.””Leave Barbie’s feet to Barbie.”
This is not the first time a dangerous practice has gone viral on a social media platform like TikTok; in 2021, doctors warned people not to participate in the “Milk Box Challenge” that went viral on Facebook and TikTok. The trend involved climbing on top of an unsafe milk crate without falling; in July 2022, two girls, then ages 8 and 9, died in the “Blackout Challenge,” and TikTok was even sued in a wrongful death lawsuit.
