Lizzo’s former backup dancers continue to speak out against Lizzo after filing lawsuits regarding hostile work environment, body shaming, and sexual harassment.
Ariana Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noel Rodriguez were interviewed by Good Morning America on Friday.
There, they described Lizzo as “fatphobic” (having negative feelings and prejudice against obesity) and said her response to their complaints was hypocritical and like “getting punched in the face.”
Ariana said, “I understand that it is alarming to hear that Lizzo, a plus-size woman who preaches body positivity, is essentially fatphobic. But I want people to understand that hurt people hurt people,” she said in front of the camera.
Ariana explained that after she gained weight, Lizzo told her he was concerned about her. ‘My attitude was the same, my energy was the same, my dancing ability was the same. It was the first time the weight gain was noticeable, and she told me she was worried about me. I can only attribute it to my weight gain,” she continued. Crystal then added, “When you see a public figure, the only thing you know about them is what they show when the cameras are rolling.
They also touched on Instagram’s reaction to Lizzo’s lawsuit, which denied the accusations, with Ariana saying, “I felt like I got punched in the face with this post.”
Crystal expressed, “Her brand preaches female empowerment and it’s sad that she didn’t acknowledge our feelings.” She stated that Lizzo’s response was hypocritical and contrary to what she stands for.
In this interview, Ariana also shed tears as she discussed an incident in which Lizzo allegedly pressured her to touch a nude performer at a sex show in Amsterdam. ‘After I said no a lot, she started chanting,’ Davis said, explaining that Lizzo began chanting her name, “Ali.” She said in a hushed voice, “I touched the performer a little and pulled my hand back, and everyone burst out laughing and thought it was funny that I, of all people, would touch this performer.” She continued, “I even remember making a joke because I was trying to divert attention away from myself.”
When the interviewer asked if she could have left earlier, Ariana replied, “I was there because I wanted to be present enough for Lizzo.
The dancers also claimed that they felt as if their work was always in danger. Our work is always threatened. I personally have never been guaranteed a job in all these years, all these years,” she revealed.
