Anne was driving a blue Mini Cooper when she crashed into a Los Angeles residence on August 5, local time. It caused a large fire that severely burned her. Photos from the scene showed Anne on a stretcher with serious back injuries, and photos from the sky recorded smoke billowing from the residence and numerous fire trucks surrounding the area.

Her representative explained the situation, “Immediately after the accident, Anne Heche lost consciousness and fell into a coma,” and “She suffered serious lung damage requiring mechanical ventilation and burns requiring surgical intervention. Ann never regained consciousness after that, and was declared brain dead, and it was confirmed that she died on August 12.

Ellen, who was in a relationship with Anne from 1997 to 2000, was asked by a photographer on August 10 (local time) if she had talked to Anne. She added, “I don’t want anyone to get hurt,” Entertainment Tonight reported.

Shortly after her death was confirmed, Ellen said, “It’s a sad day. Sending all my love to Ann’s children, family and friends,” she tweeted.

Anne’s representative commented, “We have lost a bright light, a kind and cheerful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend,” and “She will live on with her vivacious sons, her iconic works, and her passionate advocacy.
