The Rays’ promising young infielder, Wander Franco, is facing serious allegations. The Rays released a statement on the evening of August 13 that MLB is investigating several social networking posts about Franco that surfaced the same day.
Serious allegations against Franco of the Rays… “Originally rested” by his commanding officer for not attending games.
The “allegations” being spread on social media are that the 22-year-old Franco had an inappropriate relationship with a minor. We take the situation very seriously and are in close contact with the organization while MLB investigates the details,” the statement said. Franco had started the last 20 consecutive games, but did not play in the home game against the Guardians that day.
Manager Kevin Cash said, “I am aware of that speculation, but I won’t comment further on it. The 20-year-old center fielder, who signed a 12-year, $223 million ($31.966 billion) contract in 2021, has a bright future ahead of him. This season, he was the offensive leader with a .281 batting average, 17 home runs, 58 runs batted in, and 30 stolen bases, but what will the results of the survey be like?
