X users are calling for Sandra Bullock to vacate her Oscar.
The Blind Side is the story of Michael Orr, a homeless man who is welcomed into the home of Lee Ann Tewey (Sandra Bullock), where he develops his talents as a football player. For this film, Sandra Bullock won the Best Actress Award at the 82nd Academy Awards.
However, Michael Oher, a real-life former NFL player, claimed that the Tewey family adoption depicted in the film was an outright lie. On the contrary, he claimed that the portrayal of his life in the film made his family a lot of money, while he got nothing.
Following the controversy, X-users have called for her to vacate her Oscar.
Many have said, “Sandra Bullock should give back her Oscar,” and “If the Michael Oher allegations are true, they should take it back from Sandra Bullock and give it to Gabourey Sidibe for Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.”
However, there were also those who defended Sandra, commenting that it was not her fault that real people were exploitative con artists and thieves, and that Sandra Bullock deserved the Oscar because she was a very good actor and made the Tewey family likable.
In response, actor Quinton Aaron, who played Michael Oher in the film, said, “I think Sandra [Bullock] has just experienced a loss and is probably trying to stay out of the spotlight and handle her situation as best she can. I have heard people say some pretty disturbing things about her. Leave her alone,” he urged fans.
