The special effects artist who is suing is Christine Overs, 74, a veteran artist who has worked on films such as “GoldenEye” and “Alien. Christine was working on a beach scene in “The Little Mermaid” when a makeshift staircase broke and she fell to the ground, breaking her wrist.

The accident required Christine to wear five steel pins in her wrist, as well as an arm stabilizing device. In addition to the “ongoing pain in her wrist,” Christine’s lawyers claim that as a special effects artist, Christine now has difficulty performing the precise movements required by her job. They also accuse Christine of having to use makeshift staircases because adequate access to the set was not in place.

Meanwhile, Sandcastle Pictures, the company being sued, has accepted full responsibility for Christine’s injuries on the set of The Little Mermaid, but is disputing the $191,000 amount she is seeking. A pretrial hearing has already been held, but the actual trial date has not yet been set.

Although safety measures have become much stricter than in the past, accidents continue to occur on movie sets due to human error, unforeseen circumstances, and other factors. Recently, an accident occurred on the set of “Gladiator 2” and six crew members were taken to the hospital.
