‘After three and a half weeks of hearing testimony, why do they think I am someone not worthy of their trust?’
Amber Heard, who lost her defamation case against Johnny Depp on the first of this month, said in a television interview.
The exclusive interview was conducted by Savannah Guthrie, anchor of NBC’s “Today” morning show. In all, the hour-long interview will air this Friday night local time, but before that, a small portion of the interview will be released on “Today”. The opening words were stated by Heard in a less than two-minute clip that aired on Monday.
It is clear from this very short video that Heard is still claiming that she is a victim of domestic violence. At the beginning of this video, she states, “I don’t care what people think about me, about what they think was going on behind closed doors in my home, in my marriage. I don’t expect normal people to know those things,” she stated. But then he continued, “But even if you thought I deserved all this hate, even if you thought I was lying, I don’t think you could look me in the eye and say that social media was fair,” he said, expressing frustration with the overwhelmingly strong voice of Depp’s supporters on social media.
Heard’s attorney, Ilene Bredehoeft, appeared on two television shows the day after the loss and said that social media must have influenced the verdict. During the trial, the jury was told not to look at social media or any general media coverage of the case, but Bredehoeft said, “Every day when I go home, that’s where my family is. My family watches social media,” implying that the jurors were breaking the rules. Perhaps in response to criticism of her baseless blaming of the jurors, Heard attempted damage control in this interview by saying, “I don’t blame the jurors.
I don’t blame them. In fact, I understand how they feel. He (Depp) is a beloved character. People think they know him. He’s a great actor.
In response, Guthrie said, “Jurors should not be distracted by such things. Their job is to look at the facts and the evidence. And they didn’t believe your testimony and evidence,” he said once and for all. Heard then made his opening comment.
Shortly before that, Guthrie had said, “I wish I could put it in a kinder way, but the jury did not believe you after they saw the evidence you presented and heard your testimony. They thought you were lying.” To which Heard said, “How could they have made that ruling after sitting there for over three weeks and hearing so much testimony from their paid staff?”

Of course, that is incorrect. At the trial, not only Depp’s assistants, the caretakers of his Bahamian island home, and others who are paid by Depp, but also many neutral parties testified for Depp, including the staff of the penthouse where they lived, the manager of the trailer park where they stayed, and many others. Kate Moss also testified on Depp’s behalf.
And then there is Kate Moss. According to Depp’s attorney, Ben Chiu, Moss, a past girlfriend of Depp’s, volunteered to testify at the trial. Heard said in his testimony that he punched Depp because he remembered Kate Moss and thought his sister was going to be pushed down the stairs (by Depp). Because she mentioned Moss’s name, Depp’s lawyers cleared the way for Moss to testify, but he was reluctant to do so because he is a very private person. Moss, who testified by video from England, clearly stated to the jury that she was not pushed down the stairs by Depp at all.
Private Jet Mystery Solved?
Deadline.com reports that the interview took place last Thursday in New York City. It appears that a different location was arranged, not NBC’s headquarters, so as not to be known to those around it.
This fact led to one mystery. A paparazzi photo of Heard getting out of a private jet at the Washington, DC airport was published last Friday on the gossip site TMZ.
When this paparazzi photo first appeared, social media was abuzz with questions about why he could use a private jet when he said he “could never” pay compensation to Depp. While it is true that Heard would now have a hard time getting on a regular plane, even if it was first class, a private jet is the ultimate luxury and not something he can afford. Some speculated that his ex-girlfriend Elon Musk may have arranged this for him, but given that the TMZ article also said that Heard was returning from a meeting in New York, it is likely that this was arranged by NBC.
Among those who stepped out of the private jet with him was Heard’s sister, Witney Henriquez. According to Henriquez’s former employer, Jennifer Howell, Henriquez always said at the time that it was Heard and not Depp who was violent. Also, according to Depp, Heard treated Henriquez like a sandbag. She was also a victim of Heard’s domestic violence.
Still, Henriquez is supportive of Heard. Her sister is one of the few allies Heard has left, or almost the only one. Heard hopes that the world will follow the example of this loyal sister. Will she be able to do that in an hour-long interview program, something she was unable to do in the long trial?
