It may be Johnny Depp, not Amber Heard, who pays big bucks to charities.

The defamation lawsuit filed by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, was settled on June 1. Although Johnny’s claims were accepted and he won the case, part of the reason for his victory was the “low credibility” of Amber’s testimony.

It may be Johnny Depp, not Amber Heard, who pays the big bucks to the charity.

Amber had declared in a past divorce case that she would donate half of the divorce settlement paid by Johnny to two charities, one of which was the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

However, it was later revealed that she had only donated a portion of the amount. This was one of the factors that made her testimony unreliable.

To prove this, Johnny’s side demanded that the ACLU provide documentary evidence of Amber’s payment history. This required the ACLU to produce 1,900 documents, which took an inordinate amount of time.

The ACLU filed a lawsuit in court demanding that Johnny pay $86,000 for the time and expense involved in preparing the documents.

Johnny’s side, on the other hand, argued that this was “outrageous and absurd. The judge partially accepted this argument, reduced the amount by half, and ordered Johnny to pay $38,000.

One might think that since Johnny won the libel trial, Amber, who lost, should pay the associated costs, but this is not required by law.

Johnny is also reported to have left a statement to the effect that if Amber admits fault, he will not seek payment of damages.

In other words, it seems that we are in a “treading water” situation where only Johnny has to pay a large sum of money in spite of his victory.
