Really, Dr. Brenner was done.

Dr. Martin Brenner of Hawkins National Laboratory, who had appeared in the series since Season 1, played an important role in the series as the “daddy” of Eleven, one of the main characters. In the 8th episode of season 4, while trying to escape with Eleven in his arms, he was shot by an enemy who was after Eleven, and died in the desert.

In the meantime, actor Matthew Modine, who plays Dr. Brenner, has revealed that he is not satisfied that his character will not return in Season 5.

In a new interview with Vulture, Matthew Modine said that even though his character, Dr. Brenner, was left for dead in the desert, “three things bother me. ‘How did he survive the Demogorgon? How did he survive 001? And when Eleven tried to use her power against Dr. Brenner after blowing up the three guards, Dr. Brenner nonchalantly stopped her and said, ‘You didn’t think it would be that easy. She couldn’t blow him off. What could Brenner possibly have up his sleeve?” He suggested that Dr. Brenner may still be alive.

Matthew added, “I love the Duffer brothers (creators of the drama), so I don’t want to believe it’s over. I can’t wait to work with Millie (Bobby Brown) again, so I don’t want to believe it’s over.

However, drama creators Ross Duffer and Matt Duffer dismissed the theory that Dr. Brenner is alive, claiming that he is gone for good. In their podcast show “Happy Sad Confused,” they commented, “This time, Dr. Brenner is really done.
