DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA”, the second feature film of the popular British drama “Downton Abbey”, will be released in Japan on September 30, 2022.
An ensemble drama about a British aristocrat and his servants
Downton Abbey” is a masterpiece human drama series that interweaves historical events into the lives of the Crawley family of British aristocrats and their servants. Since its broadcast in September 2010, the series has won numerous awards, including Golden Globe and Emmy Awards, and has been a huge hit in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.
The series has become such a social phenomenon that it has even spawned a group of enthusiasts known as “Downtonians.” The second film is set in 1928, one year after the first film, which was released in theaters in 2019. The film, called DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA, has received a high audience score of 97% (as of July 13) on the critics site Rotten Tomatoes.
The second film also features a familiar cast, including British treasure Maggie Smith, and new additions Natalie Bye, Laura Haddock, and Dominic West, as well as Hugh Dancy from the “Hannibal” drama series. The screenplay is by the series’ creator, Academy Award-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes. Simon Curtis (Adele in Gold: The Return of the Masterpiece) was hired to direct.
In the trailer, Downton is in an uproar when a Hollywood star arrives for a film shoot, and the eldest daughter Mary (Michelle Dockery) calmly manages the situation. Meanwhile, when Robert (Hugh Bonneville) and his family hear that the previous Countess Violet (Maggie Smith) has inherited the villa for some reason, they head for the south of France, where the discovery of a secret portrait of the young Violet leads to the family’s biggest mystery.
As the world moves into a new era, where does the future hold for the residents of Downton Abbey? The brilliant epic drama opens once again on Friday, September 30, 2022.
