Amandla Stenberg has been cast as the lead in “The Acolyte,” a new Star Wars series drama that Lucasfilm is preparing to produce for Disney+. U.S. Variety and other news outlets are reporting.
The film depicts the golden age of the Jedi, known as the “High Republic.
Based on the novel “Star Wars: High Republic, Light of the Jedi” published in 2021 by Kodansha, “Star Wars: High Republic” is a film that depicts a time long past that has never been depicted in the “Star Wars” series, including live-action dramas such as “The Mandalorian” and the movie “Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace” and depicts the golden age of the Jedi, known as the “High Republic.
Leslie Headland, known for his work on Netflix’s popular drama “Russian Doll: The Mysterious Time Loop,” will serve as showrunner.
Stenberg, who landed the lead role in this year’s film, made her acting debut as a child actor in 2012, soon after gaining attention for her role as Lou in “The Hunger Games,” and after appearing in popular TV dramas such as “Sleepy Hollow” (13), she has been working as a high school girl who stands up for her friend who was shot dead for a crime she did not commit. She received critical acclaim for her performance in “Hate You Give” (18), which examines contemporary American social issues such as racism and excessive police violence through the portrayal of a high school girl who stands up for her friend who was shot to death for a crime she did not commit. Most recently, she gave a strong performance in “Dear Evan Hansen” (21), an adaptation of the popular Broadway musical.
