She was officially declared brain dead.

Anne’s representative commented, “We have lost a bright light, a kind and joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend. Her courage to always stand true to herself and spread her message of love and acceptance will continue to have a lasting impact.

On August 5 local time, a blue Mini Cooper driven by Anne crashed into a Los Angeles residence. It caused a large fire that severely burned Ann. Photos from the scene showed Anne on a stretcher with serious back injuries, and photos from the sky recorded smoke billowing from the residence and numerous fire trucks surrounding the area.

Her representative explained the situation, “Immediately after the accident, Anne Heche lost consciousness and fell into a coma,” and “she suffered serious lung damage requiring mechanical ventilation and burns requiring surgical intervention.”

On August 11, Anne’s representatives announced that she had suffered a “severe anoxic brain injury” and was “not expected to survive.” The next day, her representatives announced that she had been officially declared brain dead. Doctors said her heart would continue to beat as they waited to see if she would be a match for organ donation, but it was confirmed that she died on August 12.
