Actor Leonardo DiCaprio narrowly missed out on the role of James Dean in the biopic of Hollywood star James Dean (24 years old), best known for his roles in the films “East of Eden” and “Rebel Without a Cause” (both 1955).
He would have been 19 at the time.
On August 10, director Michael Mann, who has helmed films such as “ALI” (2001) and “Collateral” (2004), confessed to Deadline that he had given up on making a biopic about James Dean, who died in a car accident in 1955 at the young age of 24. Leonardo himself wanted to be in the film, but Mann felt he was “too young” to play James Dean.
It was a great script,” he said. And then I thought, who could play James Dean? And I found a guy who could play James Dean. But he was too young. And that was Leo.
