Mariah Carey’s status as the “Queen of Christmas” is under threat.
Mariah Carey’s most famous song is “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” a classic Christmas song that is still loved around the world even though it was released in 1994.
Mariah Carey’s status as the “Queen of Christmas” is under threat.
Mariah is said to be attempting to register a trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for being named the “undisputed Queen of Christmas” in a Billboard article in 2021.
However, two singers objected to this claim. They are Elizabeth Chang and Darlene Love.
The two objected to Mariah’s claim, saying that they have used the title “Queen of Christmas” in the past and intend to continue using it in the future.
Just last year, Elizabeth Chan released an album titled The Queen of Christmas.
Elizabeth told “Variety,” “Christmas has existed for longer than anyone else on the planet, and hopefully it will exist until much later than anyone else on the planet. And I feel very strongly that such a Christmas-related thing should not be held by one person and permanently monopolized, as Mariah does. It is not the right thing to do,” she said, expressing his opposition to Mariah’s trademarking, “Christmas belongs to everyone. It is something to be shared, not owned by one person,” she continued.
Darlene Love has also been singing songs about Christmas since the 1960s.
In Facebook, she wrote, “David Letterman officially recognized me as the ‘Queen of Christmas’ 29 years ago. This was one year before ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ was released. Now I am 81 years old and nothing has changed for me,” insisted Darren, “I have been in the industry for 52 years now and I can still deliver the same music. Mariah, if you have anything to say, please contact David or my lawyer,” he added.
