The 2022 NFL season will begin on September 8. Here are the games to watch in Week 1.
Rams vs. Bills, a highly anticipated game
Los Angeles Rams vs. Buffalo Bills
This is a highly-anticipated opening card, touted as a prelude to this season’s Super Bowl. The champion Rams will be looking at the hotline between QB Matthew Stafford and WR Cooper Kupp. Cupp led the league in targets (191) and first downs (89) last season and will be Stafford’s main target again this season.
Against the Bills, the key to victory will be whether QB Josh Allen can exploit the Rams’ strong defense. The Bills will be looking to use their strong shoulders to not only pass the ball, but also use their own feet to get around their opponents. Both teams are solid offensively and defensively, so who will win the season opener?
Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots
The Dolphins brought in new head coach Mike McDaniel in the offseason. They traded for WR Tyreek Hill from the Chiefs and acquired LT Terron Armstead to bolster their offense. It will be interesting to see how QB Tua Tagovailoa, with a new “partner,” will attack the Patriots defensive network.
The Patriots, on the other hand, will be looking to attack the ground game with their double RBs, Damian Harris and Ramondre Stevenson, and if QB Mack Jones, now in his second year, can play a solid, mistake-free game, they will have a chance to win. However, they are 2-7 in their last 9 games in Miami, which is a bad matchup. Some reports indicate that he arrived there a week ago to make adjustments. Will they be able to overcome their weaknesses in Miami, where the temperature and humidity are high?
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
The Bengals have revamped their offensive line that allowed a total of 70 sacks last season, including regular season and playoffs. The team made significant changes, replacing four of the five players who started last season. It will be interesting to see how the improved OL will face the Steelers’ pass rush. Also, keep an eye on the duo of QB Joe Burrow and WR Jamar Chase.
The Steelers have been busy looking for a replacement for the retired Ben Roethlisberger. QB Mitchell Trubisky, who performed well in the preseason, will start the season opener. Can the new leader lead the team to victory?
Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers
The Packers boast a consistent 13-win season for the third straight year, led by QB Aaron Rodgers, the MVP for the second year in a row. However, they released WR DeVante Adams last offseason. The team will start the season without an official ace receiver. The two key players, RB Aaron Jones and RBA.J. Dillon, will be essential to lighten Rodgers’ load.
In contrast, the Vikings have a rich offensive lineup with RB Dalvin Cook running and WR Justin Jefferson and WR Adam Thielen passing, and it will be interesting to see how QB Kirk Cousins develops the offense.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Cardinals signed QB Kyler Murray to a 5-year, $230 million ($31.6 billion) contract extension to keep him. The suspension of ace WR Deandre Hopkins is a blow, but they hope to win the ground game with the run play of RB James Conner.
The Chiefs traded away WR Tyreek Hill, a big play target for QB Patrick Mahomes, in the offseason. However, they have receivers such as TE Travis Kelcey, who has 6 straight years with over 1000 yards receiving, WR Micole Hardman, and WR Juju Smith-Schuster, who was acquired in FA. Keep an eye out for a matchup of young QBs.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Both teams believe in a passing offense, but both have issues on the OL to start the season. The Buccaneers are concerned about pass protection, having lost all three games in the preseason and giving up seven sacks. The ability to cover QB Tom Brady, who returned 40 days after his shocking retirement announcement, will be a major factor in the win or loss.
The Cowboys also lost LT Tyron Smith to an avulsion fracture in his left knee. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the Buccaneers defense, which boasts one of the top front seven in the league. This is the same card as the season opener last season. Will the Cowboys be humiliated or will the Buccaneers get their revenge?
Seattle Seahawks vs. Denver Broncos
Broncos QB Russell Wilson, who spent 10 years with the Seahawks and helped them win the first Super Bowl in team history, will make his triumphant return to Seattle in the season opener. It will be interesting to see how he will play in a familiar place.
QB Gino Smith is expected to start for the Seahawks, who lost their leader. With the expected struggles, we hope to see both WRs, D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, churn out big plays to bite the dust.
