It seems highly unlikely that Prince Henry will wear a military uniform at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
On Thursday, September 8, Queen Elizabeth of England died. The Queen’s coffin is currently being transported from Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she breathed her last, to London, England, where it will be opened to the general public, followed by a state funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19.
Prince Henry will likely not be allowed to wear his military uniform at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
Normally, members of the royal family with military titles wear military uniforms at such occasions. However, Prince Henry also gave up his military title when he left the royal family in 2020, and it is highly likely that he will not be allowed to wear a military uniform at the queen’s state funeral.
Another person who gave up his military title is Prince Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth, who retired from public service in 2019 because of his interaction with Jeffrey Epstein, a businessman who was arrested as a perpetrator of sexual abuse. As for him, however, he is allowed to wear his military uniform at the final prayer service “as a special tribute to Her Majesty the Queen,” according to the source.
A source said of Prince Henry, “He will be saddened that he cannot wear a military uniform at the Queen’s funeral.
Prince Henry is a war veteran who was on the front lines in Afghanistan, firing on the Taliban from an Apache helicopter. He had been awarded three prestigious titles: General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commodore of the Honington Air Force, and Commander of Small Ships and Submarines, all of which he relinquished when he left the royal family.
It should be noted that at the funeral of Prince Philip last April, all members of the royal family attended in regular mourning attire rather than military uniforms. It is said that this was an unusual decision by Queen Elizabeth in consideration of Prince Andrew and Prince Henry.
