Apple-Sponsored Super Bowl Halftime Show to Feature Rihanna

The National Football League (NFL) announced on September 25 (local time) that Rihanna has been chosen as the main artist for the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, which will be sponsored by Apple Inc.

 Rihanna herself made the announcement on her official Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The tweet is just an image of Rihanna’s right hand holding up a football, but on Instagram it is accompanied by the text “Rihanna will headline the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show.

 

The 2023 halftime show will be produced by record label Roc Nation, which is headed by music producer and rapper JAY-Z, aka Shawn Carter, who is an executive producer along with artist Jess Collins Rihanna is a member of Roc Nation’s roster of producers. Rihanna is one of Roc Nation’s signed artists.

 

This will be Rihanna’s first time on stage since her performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards ceremony.

 

The Super Bowl, the NFL’s league championship game, is a highly watched content event known for the high price of commercial slots aired there. The halftime show, which takes place during halftime, attracts as much attention as the game itself, and in the past has featured performances by U2, Paul McCartney, Prince, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, and others.

 

The 2022 show, the last halftime show to be primarily sponsored by PepsiCo, also featured Dr. Dre, co-founder of Apple-owned Beats by Dr. Dre; according to the NFL, the halftime show had a live audience of over 120 million and was “the the most-watched music performance of the year,” according to the NFL.

 

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, said in the announcement, “We are pleased to partner with Rihanna, Roc Nation and the NFL to bring music and sports fans an important show. What a great artist for the first Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show.”

 

Apple Music is expected to release a small amount of relevant information on its official TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter accounts until the halftime show goes live.
