The family of the deceased and those involved in the accidental shooting on the set of the movie “Rust” have reached a settlement.

The producers of the film “Rust” and Alec Baldwin, the film’s lead actor and producer, have reached a settlement with the families of the victims of the accidental shooting.

Last October, cinematographer Alina Hutchins was killed on the set of the film “Rust” while filming in New Mexico by the accidental shooting of a prop gun. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the accident. Alec, who shot the gun without knowing it was loaded, was told by the assistant director who checked the gun beforehand that it was “safe,” and it is believed that the accident was caused by a lack of checking by the assistant director and the weapons officer who handed the gun to him. The investigation has since revealed that the gun Alec fired was not a prop gun, but a “real gun” with live ammunition inside.

A new forensic investigation conducted by the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) concluded that the gun in question “could not be fired without pulling the trigger,” but Alec blames Hannah Gutierrez Reed, a weapons officer known as an armorer, and himself for the accident, as the gun contained no live ammunition. Alec placed the blame for the accident on Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer, and Dave Halls, the assistant director, who gave her the gun, saying it was a “cold gun” with no live ammunition in it. He has maintained that not a day goes by since the accident that he does not think about Alina, and that he is not responsible for the accident.

Alina’s family had filed a lawsuit against the film’s producers, including Alec, alleging that there were violations of standards on the set of “Rust. Alina’s husband, Matthew Hutchins, through a statement released on October 5, local time, dropped the lawsuit and at the same time agreed to resume filming of “Rust”. As part of the settlement, Alina’s husband Matthew will serve as executive producer of “Rust” and filming will resume in January 2023. The entire original cast, including Alec, will participate in filming.

Matthew said, “I have no interest in recriminating [Mr. Baldwin or the other producers] or assigning blame. We all believe that Alina’s death was a horrible accident. We are grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to honor Alina’s final work.”

Alec added, “Throughout this difficult process, everyone remained clear in their desire to do what was best for Alina’s remaining son. We are grateful to all who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation”.
