Hagrid was Harry’s best friend, a character known for his impossibly large size and hilarious accent. In the storybook world, Hagrid was unable to complete his education at Hogwarts and was therefore forbidden to use magic, but that didn’t stop him from playing an important role within Hogwarts.

The “Harry Potter” movie series ended in 2011, but the franchise remains beloved. The cast members have worked together for many years and share a meaningful bond with each other, as evidenced by the recent 20th anniversary reunion special. In the films, Harry and Hagrid were very close, and that relationship continued off-screen between Daniel and Robbie.

Daniel released a statement shared with Deadline following Robbie’s death. Robbie was one of the funniest people I ever met and always made us kids on set laugh. I have especially fond memories of “Prisoner of Azkaban” when he cheered us up after hours of hiding in Hagrid’s hut during a torrential downpour. We were very lucky to have met and worked with him and it is with great sadness that he passed away. He was a wonderful actor and a wonderful person.
