Amber Heard, was moving abroad a way to escape lawsuits? ‘I don’t have an address in the U.S., so I’m out of jurisdiction’

After losing her defamation lawsuit against Johnny Depp and giving a TV interview about her loss to the lowest ratings, Amber Heard has been hiding in the clouds. In the midst of all this, she was photographed by paparazzi in Israel in August and in Spain in September, vacationing with friends and her daughter. People wondered how he could afford to do so when he was out of work and had just been ordered to pay Depp about $10 million, and speculated that these paparazzi photos were probably provided by the attention-seeker himself.

It’s not as if Heard has any intention of paying Depp.

Prior to these trips, she sold her home in Yakka Valley, California, a house she had just bought in 2019, and sold it quickly. It sold for nearly double the price she bought it for, so she made a profit, but not nearly as much as she would have had to pay Depp. I don’t think that’s the reason, since it’s obvious that Heard has no intention of paying Depp in the first place, as if he had any intention at all.

Now, however, the possibility has emerged that these series of actions were based on calculation. In order to avoid a court case with the insurance company, Heard tried to pretend that he did not live in the United States.

Things are getting rather complicated between Heard and the insurance company. Heard had homeowners insurance from two insurance companies, Travelers and New York Marine & General, before he was sued by Depp, and his legal fees for the trial with Depp were paid out of them. However, it was Travelers that paid the majority of the fees, which they considered unfair, and they sued New York Marine, which in turn sued Travelers. In response, New York Marine countersued Travelers, while they also filed a lawsuit against Heard, saying they were not obligated to pay. California law states that an insurance company is not obligated to pay if it intentionally defames someone.

Since there is a lot of overlap between these three disparate lawsuits, it was decided that they would be combined into one and a specific timeline would be set. Heard countered that he was not in a position to do so at this time. The reason is that he does not live in the United States. Therefore, he said, it is outside the jurisdiction of this court. Heard argues that even at the time the case was filed in New York Marine, he was no longer in the U.S., and he brings up past cases in which people who were U.S. citizens but not domiciled in the U.S. were held to be “stateless” (no state).

But what Heard says is not really true. New York Marine filed suit against Heard on July 8, one month after the ruling was issued. Heard sold the Yakka Valley house on July 18. In other words, she was a resident of California at the time she was sued by New York Marine. Whether her flight abroad was due to the lawsuit by New York Marine or whether it was something she had in mind from the time she lost the case against Depp and was sentenced to pay approximately $10 million is not known, but it is apparent that it was not simply a matter of relaxing away from the public eye.

Insurance companies are not as kind to Depp.

Still, this is only a temporary reprieve. It is the same as trying to postpone payment to Depp by filing an appeal. There is a strong possibility that the appeal application will be dismissed, and there will come a time in the near future when they will eventually have to pay. However, Depp, who has been saying from the beginning that this trial is not about money, is not likely to go after Heard to collect the money. It is believed that Heard is anticipating that as well. But New York Marine will not be so kind. Even if they stall for time, Heard will be on the hook for a large amount of money if their insistence on refusing to pay the legal fees is finally approved.

As usual, Heard, who continues to be in trouble, suddenly closed his Twitter account. Although she still has an Instagram account, she has not posted anything new since June 1, when she lost her case against Depp. How is she going to live her life as a single mother with a daughter, now that she has chosen to be stateless?
