Elon Musk recently completed the acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion (about 6.47 trillion yen). Immediately after the acquisition, he laid off about half of the company’s employees to reduce the workforce, but now he is contacting some of his former employees to ask them to come back to the company.
I knew you had to come back to the company.
Elon Musk acquired Twitter in late October. On November 4, he reportedly fired approximately 3,700 employees, or about half of the company’s workforce, via “e-mail. In addition, many former employees learned of their job losses when access to Slack, a business messaging application, was abruptly suspended.
However, Bloomberg now reports that Twitter has contacted some of its recently fired former employees and asked them to return to work.
According to two insiders, some of the fired personnel were fired for “mistakes. Some employees were fired before management “realized that their work and experience might be needed to build the new capabilities that Mr. Musk envisioned.
The reason for this mishap appears to be that the process of downsizing was rushed and chaotic following Mr. Musk’s acquisition. However, Mr. Musk had tweeted on November 4 that “with the company losing just over $4 million every day, unfortunately there is no choice.” in regard to the layoffs.
It is not clear at this time whether any of the employees have accepted the offer to return to work.
It has been announced that several new features and services will be launched after Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. One major one is that users will pay $8 per month to become an “approved account,” which will allow them to display longer videos and fewer ads.
In addition, Musk also tweeted, “Soon you will be able to post longer text. The timing of the launch of this feature is still unknown.
However, the company is rushing to provide the new feature with half the staff, and some employees are sleeping in at work to meet the deadline. The new structure of Twitter Inc. seems to be chaotic at the moment.
