The survey results were reversed after the November 8 midterm elections.

The lackluster midterm election results have prompted criticism of former President Trump from within the Republican Party.

Following the results of the midterm elections, more Republican supporters in the U.S. prefer Florida Governor DeSantis to former President Trump as the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election, according to the latest survey.

According to a YouGov America survey conducted after the midterm elections, 42% of Republican supporters and Republican-leaning voters said Florida Governor DeSantis is the best choice for the Republican nomination for the next presidential election, compared to 35% who said former President Trump.

The expected Republican “red wave” did not occur, and Democrats retained their majority in the Senate, prompting criticism of former President Trump within the Republican Party.

Reportedly outraged by the results of the midterm elections, former President Trump has in recent days been sharply criticizing Governor DeSantis, calling him an “average governor” and suggesting that he lacks loyalty for not denying his candidacy for the presidency in 2024.

The escalation of Trump’s “verbal attacks” suggests that he fears that DeSantis has become a formidable political opponent for him and could potentially split the Republican Party in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election.

Former President Trump will make a “very big announcement” at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida on November 15 (local time), and it is widely accepted that the announcement will likely be about his third presidential run.

Many officials have reportedly asked former President Trump to delay the announcement until the midterm election turmoil subsides, but based on comments from sources close to the former President and emails to supporters, it appears that the former President intends to make the announcement as scheduled.

Governor DeSantis has so far not stated whether he will run for president in 2024, but according to The Independent, sources believe he will make an announcement after the state legislature adjourns in May 2023.
