Bradley has signed on to play an iconic San Francisco cop in “Bullitt,” the 1968 classic considered one of Steve McQueen’s best films.

While little is known about the story, sources say the project is not a direct remake of “The Brit,” but rather “a new idea around a character.”

The film is an adaptation of the 1963 novel “Silent Witness” by Robert L. Fish and stars Frank Britt, a hard-nosed San Francisco detective played by McQueen. The story begins with Britt trying to track down a crime lord who killed a witness under his protection.

Jacqueline Bisset, Robert Vaughn, Don Gordon, Robert Duvall, and Norman Fell also star in what is said to be one of the greatest car chases in film history.

Spielberg is directing and Steve McQueen’s son and granddaughter, Chad McQueen and Molly McQueen, are executive producers.

The project marks the first time Spielberg has directed Bradley Cooper, but the two have come close to collaborating in the past. Spielberg was originally slated to direct him in the 2015 film American Sniper, but he dropped out, leaving Clint Eastwood to helm.
