Dozens of employees of the social networking service Twitter were laid off overnight on Wednesday, November 23, local time, Insider reported.
According to the report, the additional layoffs came as a surprise within Twitter.
The reason for this is that Elon Musk stated at a company-wide meeting earlier this week that no further layoffs would take place.
Dozens of Twitter employees who were laid off overnight on Wednesday were engineers. A person familiar with the company told Insider.
The person also said the termination process was similar to that experienced by previously fired employees. Access to work tools and computers was blocked, and notice of termination was sent to the employee’s personal e-mail account, the person said.
Thousands of Twitter employees have also been fired, resigned, or laid off by Elon Musk, leaving the company short-handed in key personnel. Twitter’s team was already short-staffed and many employees had to work on Thanksgiving, officials said.
Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in the United States, Canada, and other countries, and is a time for family and friends to gather. The fact that the firing took place on the day before Thanksgiving must have been a shock not only within Twitter, but also outside the company.
According to CNN, an e-mail sent by Elon Musk to Twitter employees said, “Decide by Thursday (November 17) whether you are going to do extremely hardcore work or leave the company. The email said, “Decide by Thursday [November 17] whether you will do extremely hardcore work or leave the company.
