Clarence battled an unexplained illness.

His sad news was revealed by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he was a professor of film and theater in the UNLV College of Fine Arts.

‘It is with deep sadness that I share this news,’ President Nancy Asher wrote in an Instagram post. ‘His students were deeply inspired by him, as were all who knew him. He had many extraordinary talents and was very well known within the university through his dedication to teaching and his professional accomplishments,” she continued.

Clarence reportedly died after a battle with an unexplained illness, the details of which are still unknown.

Born in Moses Lake, Washington in 1955, Clarence played elite fighter pilot Marcus “Sundown” Williams in “Top Gun” (1986) starring Tom Cruise.

He later played Theo, an eccentric computer hacker who cracks the security codes of Nakatomi Plaza, opposite Bruce Willis’ Detective John McClane in “Die Hard” (1988).

Clarence was in the news for reprising his role as Theo when he co-starred with Bruce Willis in a 2020 advertisement for Advance Auto Parts, promoting the brand’s DieHard car battery.
