A disappointed Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about his feelings.

The Portuguese national team lost 0-1 to Morocco in the quarterfinals of the Qatar World Cup on December 10 local time.

Ronaldo started from the bench for the second consecutive game, but failed to find the net in the 51st minute and shed tears after the match.

Ronaldo updated his Instagram page after the game. Winning the World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. Fortunately, I won many international titles, including the Portuguese national team, but my biggest dream was to position my country’s name among the best in the world,” he continued.

I fought for it. I fought hard for this dream, and I gave it my all for 16 years, scoring in five World Cups, always alongside great players and with the support of millions of Portuguese people. I gave everything on the pitch, I never turned my face away from the fight and I never gave up on that dream.”

Some media outlets reported that he was benched for the round of 16 match against Switzerland and demanded to be left out of the team, but he had no intention of doing so.

The 37-year-old superstar said, “Unfortunately, the dream ended yesterday. It’s not worth getting emotional about. I want everyone to know that although much has been said, written, and speculated, my dedication to Portugal has never changed for a moment. I was always one person fighting for everyone’s goals, and I never turned my back on my teammates and my country,” he continued.

He concluded, “For now, there is nothing more to say. Thank you Portugal. Thank you Qatar. It was beautiful while the dream lasted…. Now it is time for time to be a good advisor and allow each of us to draw our own conclusions,” wrote C. Ronaldo. He will take time to decide about retiring from the national team, but it seems that the World Cup will be his last.
