In response to criticism of the documentary program “Harry & Meghan,” which began streaming on Netflix last week, representatives for Prince Harry and his wife, Princess Meghan, have released a statement rebutting the criticism.

Prince Harry and Meghan left the British royal family at the end of March 2020, and some have speculated that the couple “left the royal family to protect their privacy,” and that appearing on a show like “Harry & Meghan” is “not the same as what they say and do. The two have been accused of “saying the wrong thing and doing the wrong thing.

However, a representative for Prince Harry and Princess Meghan has stated that the story of privacy as the reason for leaving the royal family is not true, saying, “The Duke and Duchess have never cited privacy as a reason for leaving the high royal family. This distorted narrative was an attempt to silence the couple. In fact, in the statement announcing their stepping down, they made no mention of privacy and reiterated that they would continue in their roles and public duties. (That other point (which is not true) goes to the important point of this series,” he commented.

The couple’s representative also told the New York Times, “The statement announcing their retirement (from high royalty) makes no mention of privacy. They reiterated that they would continue in their roles and public duties. Despite this, the tabloids have created a story that is completely untrue and permeates the press and public opinion. The truth is right in front of them,” said a similar statement.

Incidentally, the statement announcing that Prince Harry and Princess Meghan will step down as high-ranking royals in January 2020 made no mention of privacy, and although it was not ultimately acknowledged, it did say that they “intend to be financially independent while traveling between the United States and the United Kingdom, as much as possible. I intend to be financially independent and to travel between the U.S. and the U.K. and to engage in public service as much as possible,” it said.
