On December 15, Palmeiras’ Endrick, a big striker who made his professional debut at the age of 16, announced that he has signed a contract with Real Madrid starting in 2024, when he will turn 18.
He also set a record for the second-highest signing fee ever for a Brazilian player.
Local newspapers and websites reported on December 15.
Endrick made a splash this January when he participated in the Sao Paulo Junior Cup (Coppinha) at the age of 15 and also won the Best Player Award with players up to the age of 21 in his wake.
He continued to participate in tournaments in groups above the normal age range, and in July, when he turned 16, he signed a contract with Palmeiras.
By the end of the season in November, he had scored three goals and was starting at center forward.
Because of this, he was early on in the spotlight for a professional contract with an international powerhouse, but he signed a contract with Real for 72 million euros.
This amount is more than the 45 million euros Real signed Vinicius Junior in 2017 and Rodrigo in 2018, and is the second largest contract for a Brazilian player, behind Neymar’s 88.4 million euros when he signed with Barcelona in 2013.
By regulation, Brazilian players are not allowed to play outside the country until they turn 18, so Endrick will remain with Palmeiras until July 2024. Spain’s Marca newspaper called him “a player who could surpass Romario and Ronaldo.
