Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa is a 16-year-old who has just made his professional debut for the prestigious Palmeiras.
Real Madrid has acquired a new Brazilian prodigy.
Ahead of his arrival in the summer of 2024, when he will be 18 years old, here are five things to know about Endrick.
Two club records already broken!
Despite only making his first-team debut this past October, Endrick has already created a sensation at Palmeiras, breaking two records: becoming the youngest player in club history at 16 years, 2 months, and 15 days old, followed by the youngest player to score a goal at 16 years, 3 months, and 4 days.
It all started on YouTube.
Although Endrick started his professional career with the prestigious Palmeiras, he is not from São Paulo, where the club is located, but was born and raised in the capital city of Brasilia. When he was 11 years old, Palmeiras offered him an apartment to live with his family and a job as a janitor at the club’s facilities, and the family moved to São Paulo.
The Story Behind the Smile
Endrick’s trademark smile was the first advertising contract he signed with a major dental group. There is a story behind this. Endrick’s father had lost most of his teeth in an accident and was unable to eat hard food. He was drinking soup all the time in the cafeteria of the club facility where he worked as a janitor, and the goalkeeper of the first team, Jaiuson, noticed this and took care of all the medical expenses.
Already a mainstay of the U20 national team
Although he is only 16 years old, Endrick has been called up to Brazil’s national team for the U20 South American Championships, which will be held in Colombia from January 19 to February 12. At the tournament, he is expected to replicate the success he showed at the Mondial Montaigu Nationals U16 world tournament, where he was the top scorer.
Cristiano is his idol.
His idol is Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he grew up watching play since he was three years old when Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid. That was one of the reasons he decided to move to Real Madrid, and in a recent interview with Marca, Endrick said, “Real Madrid is a tremendous club, but my friend Vinicius pushed me. So did Cristiano. He is my idol.
