According to an Instagram post by Keenan on December 15, he had revealed that he would soon undergo open chest surgery.

It is not known what ailment Keenan had that necessitated the surgery. But apparently, it is believed to be caused by a disease called Maroteau-Ramey syndrome.

Maroteau-Ramey syndrome, also known as mucopolysaccharidosis type VI, is a progressive disease in which many tissues and organs become enlarged, inflamed, and scarred, and eventually atrophy. Skeletal abnormalities are also common, but the rate of deterioration varies from patient to patient. The most common cause of death in people with this disease is heart disease.
