The Red Sox have agreed to an 11-year, $331 million contract with infielder Rafael Devers, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale and several other U.S. media outlets reported simultaneously on January 4.

Last season, he batted .295 with 27 home runs and 88 runs batted in.

Devers, 26, made his major league debut in 2017. The year before last, he hit 38 home runs and drove in 113 runs. Last year, he hit .295 with 27 home runs and 88 runs batted in, and in six years in the majors, he has 139 home runs and 455 runs batted in. He is one of the league’s best hitters, having been selected for the All-Star game twice.

 

The Red Sox had just announced the previous day, January 3, that they had agreed to a single-year contract with Devers, avoiding salary arbitration. According to “Stat & Info” of the U.S. sports network ESPN, Devers is the highest-paid major league third baseman in history, and the fourth player in history to sign a major contract worth more than $300 million this offseason.
