According to a report in The New Yorker, the U.S. television network HBO is spending a huge budget on “THE LAST OF US,” a drama based on a popular video game.

Based on the popular survival action game, which was released exclusively for the PlayStation®3 in 2013 and has won more than 200 game awards worldwide, “THE LAST OF US” is the brainchild of Neil Druckmann, creative director of the game series, and the director of (2019) and co-written by Craig Mazin, who also wrote and executive produced “Chernobyl” (2019), this HBO original drama is based on the popular survival action game, which has won over 200 video game awards worldwide.

The film, which will be available on U-NEXT from January 16 this year, features a star-studded cast including actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

And its budget is said to be larger than that of five seasons of the popular fantasy drama “Game of Thrones” combined.

The New Yorker also revealed how the film came to be dramatized and the large amount of money that was invested in it.

Although no official amount has been announced by the TV network at this time, The New Yorker reports that “THE LAST OF US” has cost more than $100 million (about 13.208 billion yen) for season 1 alone.

Game of Thrones” is said to be around $50 million to $80 million for its five seasons.

Note that creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have stated in one interview that the film will not last longer than the video game.

One of the reasons for this is that the production company, Naughty Dog, has not approved the creation of a game version of THE LAST OF US Part 3.
