Manchester U welcomed Charlton Athletic (3rd division), who beat Brighton in the 4th round, at home. Manchester U took control of the game with Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony Eranga up front, and in the 21st minute, Antony cut in from the right side and sank a superbly controlled shot to give the visitors the lead.
The two quarterfinal matches of the Carabao Cup (EFL Cup) were held on January 10.

In the 72nd minute, Joerington scored from an excellent through ball by Miguel Almiron. Newcastle held on to secure their ticket to the semi-finals.
