The Supercopa de España (Spanish Supercup) semifinals were held on January 12 between Betis and Barcelona.
Goalkeeper Marc-André Thea Stegen in action.
In the 40th minute, Robert Lewandowski took a pass from Ousmane Dembele and fired home from the edge of the penalty area. The goal was blocked once by a defender, but the ball was tipped over the bar with a right-footed strike to put Barcelona ahead.
Betis took the lead in the 77th minute when Luis Enjiki set up Nabil Fekir for a left-footed strike to put the game out of reach. The 90 minutes were up, and the game went into extra time.
The game was on the move again in the 93rd minute when Ans Fathy reacted to a clear ball from a set piece and swung his left foot over the top of a high ball and into the right corner of the goal to give Barcelona the lead again.
Betis followed up in the 101st minute with a strong cross from close range by Enjiki, which Loren met with his body, and with his back to goal, he found the net with a right-footed heel kick to catch up once again. Andres Guardado was then sent off in the 118th minute for his second yellow card, leaving Betis with 10 men, but the game went to the 120th minute.
As in the other semifinal match between Real Madrid and Valencia on January 11, the game went to a penalty shootout, and thanks to two saves by goalkeeper Marc-André Thea Stegen, Barcelona won 4-2 and advanced to the final, where Real Madrid awaited. The final will be held on January 15.
